There’s a lot of fear that with the security issues Facebook had and now the way many people believe they’ve locked out businesses, that Facebook just isn’t worth the trouble or that you just can’t get seen without spending a ton on ads.

While I’m not going to say that ads don’t help – because they do – even $1 a day – but you can still get seen on Facebook and quite frankly…

Mainly because 1. People are creatures of convenience and Facebook has become way too convenient for personal and business reasons. 2. Facebook knows that businesses are their customers and even if you aren’t paying for ads now, they want you to in the future.

So how do you get ahead in a Facebook Zero kind of world?

Go back to basics. Consistency & Engagement.

Consistency is pretty self-explanatory, however, just to be clear, the consistency could be 3 times a day or 3 times a week. It just depends on your audience. Test it out. Try different speeds for a week or two and see what does best.

Engagement. This is the NUMBER ONE goal now on Facebook. You want to get people to engage on the posts. Clicking and liking is great – quality comments are the best!!

A couple of tricks to get comments:

Tag people! When you tag people you’ll at least get a like, but more than likely, you’ll get a comment if you truly believe that someone will be interested or amused.

Ask questions that people want to answer!

Don’t be afraid of controversy. It’s crazy, but the controversy is what is going to get comments. Pick something you can manage well and keep it open minded so that people will want to answer. It’ll probably help you most if you don’t pick a hardline that will isolate your audience.

Ask for recommendations.

People love to offer advice if they have it. So ask for it even if you don’t need it and see what comes up.

Poll them.

Facebook have a great polling option so use it. Ask some market research questions or just fun stuff like their favorite flavor ice cream – whatever they will answer.

Video is being less favored than it has in the past, but it is still the best way to get on a timeline and get engagement.

Of course these are just a few free ways to get some love on your page. However, if you haven’t set up your Facebook Page for the most bang for the free, then… download the Facebook Page Set-up Checklist here.
